Japan
6 major non-life insurers April-June net premiums up 1.2 pct |
Total net premiums of Japan's
six largest non-life insurance companies rose 1.2 pct year-on-year in the April-June
quarter to 1.52 trln yen, the Nihon Keizai Shimbun reported. |
|
Net
premiums at Tokio Marine & Fire Insurance Co, Sompo Japan Insurance Inc,
Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance Co, Aioi Insurance Co and Nipponkoa Insurance Co all
rose between 0.4 pct and 3.1 pct, the business daily said. |
|
At
Nissay Dowa General Insurance Co, the figure dropped 1.8 pct. |
|
Auto
insurance premiums fell at five of the firms, the financial daily said. |
|
Revenue
from auto insurance, which accounts for about half the total at nonlife
insurers, has plummeted due to intensifying competition brought about by
deregulation and a shift to smaller vehicles the past decade because of Japan's
economic problems. |
But
rises in fire insurance sold through banks and in medical insurance helped
offset the decline in revenue from car insurance, the Nikkei said.
