Police officer charged |
|
Gregory M. Mussmacher, 29, of
Hanover, Pa., a Baltimore City police officer, was indicted Friday by a city
grand jury on charges of first-degree and second-degree assault and misconduct
in office, in connection with the beating of a 17-year-old juvenile who was
arrested last April in the 3800 block of Glengyle Avenue. According to the
Baltimore City State's Attorney's office, Mussmacher is alleged to have struck
the teen-ager, who was handcuffed and shackled, on the head and face during the
arrest, and again at the Northwest District police station. Mussmacher, who is
now suspended with pay, will be arraigned on Sept. 28. |

Amedori on parole panel |

Gov. Robert L. Ehrlich Jr. on
Friday appointed Del. Carmen M. Amedori, R-Carroll, to the Maryland Parole
Commission, to serve the balance of a six-year term that expires Dec. 31, 2009.
The appointment is subject to confirmation by the Senate in the 2005
legislative session. In addition, David R. Blumberg and former Del. Martha S.
Klima, both commission members since October 2003, have been designated
commission chair and vice chair, respectively. Amedori, a staunch conservative,
is the Legislature's assistant minority leader and a member of the House
Judiciary Committee. |

Medicaid fraud admitted |
|
A Montgomery County woman who
worked as a provider of personal care services to vulnerable adults pled guilty
Friday to billing the Medicaid program for work that she did not in fact
perform, the attorney general's office announced. Natailya Skrinskaya, 44, of
Silver Spring, pled guilty in Montgomery County Circuit Court to one count of
felony Medicaid fraud. Skrinskaya's fraud caused a loss to Medicaid of $7,400.
Sentencing has been set for Sept, 15. Skrinskaya faces up to five years in
prison and a $10,000 fine. |

Drifter guilty of murder |
A Washington County jury
deliberated less than an hour Thursday before finding a drifter guilty of
first-degree murder in the bludgeoning of a 68-year-old woman. No sentencing
date was set for Jack L. Hammersla Jr., 46. He also was convicted of burglary,
robbery, theft and malicious destruction of property after four days of
testimony. Prosecutors said Hammersla beat the victim, Shirley Finfrock, to
death with a board after breaking into her Smithsburg home and finding her in
the bedroom.
